Ahead of my next podcast release tomorrow, I wanted to just tell you a little bit more about my journey.
As I’ve shared with you who I am on this podcast – it’s easier for my to blog in the now. So, alongside my podcast releases I’m going to start more regular blogs about what is going on in the world of The Fertility Podcast and also in my world. It means you can get to know me better and hopefully I can get to know you more.
My day job, alongside looking after my son is running my own business as a voiceover artist, however I previously worked as a radio presenter in commercial radio. I was presenting a breakfast radio show when I went through my fertility treatment and found it quite stressful regarding how I told work. I didn’t want to have to tell my boss the ‘details’ however the nature of my job meant that it was pretty impossible for me to just not show up one day.
Instead I told him I was having some medical treatments which meant I had to take days off, however I had to tell my co-presenter and my producer what was going on, so we could prepare for me not being there when my trigger happened and egg collection and transfer was due. It all worked out fine, they were supportive and I’m sharing this with you as if you’ve found yourself in a similar situation my advice would be to speak to your HR department if you have one.Lately, as I’ve been visiting clinics lately for my upcoming sponsored season with Access Fertility the more I talk to staff, the more I hear that they hear from patients that companies have policies for people going through IVF.
Did you know that?
I’m keen to find out more about how you’re dealing with ‘telling work’. From my experience I’d say, try and give your employer some information, even if it’s not the actual truth – so they don’t think you’re looking for a new job.
If you’ve had to take drastic action because you just couldn’t face talking to your employer about it, or maybe your company has an extremly forward thinking policy for IVF, it would be great to learn more about it, so please do email me natalie@thefertilitypodcast.com.
Also if you’d like to share your story, let me know on email or you can leave me a message via the box on the right hand side of this page.
Don’t miss tomorrow’s episode.
