This week we are sharing a conversation I had with Dr Jessica Zucker, a Psychologist specialising in reproductive + maternal mental health, and founder of the #IHadaMiscarriage campaign.
Her book of the same name came out in March and I wanted to discuss life after loss with Jessica.
Miscarriage isn’t something I have experienced, yet I know so many of my dear friends have and I know from the many conversations I have had within this community and in my coaching work the long term effects it has. I thought Jessica was so fascinating and insightful in our conversation and I must add a trigger warning here, as we did in the episode, she does go into detail of her own loss at 16 weeks which is what led her to create this campaign and write her book.
Despite her background, and in-depth understanding of loss, she was still hugely affected by her experience and I wanted to highlight her words as she talked about how she ‘failed to give herself the space to fall apart’ which I am sure will be so relatable to so many people.
As women we are very quick to put on a brave face and carry on, despite what we have been through, yet the research from Tommy’s that has just come out talks about how many people suffer from depression after loss, especially multiple loss and I want to stress how important it is to allow ourselves this time to process what we have been through.
In this episode we share a clip from a previous conversation with Dr Ingrid Granne who talked as part of our miscarriage series which you can now hear via The Fertility Podcast website and find more information about support available.
I hope if this is something you are dealing with you find these resources a comfort and support and do email natalie@thefertilitypodcast.com if you have any questions.
