The number of people turning to reproductive science to make a family is growing but infertility is not a modern problem. Before pregnancy tests and IVF, there was unpregnancy. What can we learn from the past about how infertility should be better treated today?
Visual Artist Anna Burel and Historian Isabel Davis will be talking about their joint project – Conceiving Histories. And actress Emma Cunniffe will describe how she prepared for her starring role in the West End Royal Shakespeare Company production of Queen Anne – the story of the monarch who went through multiple miscarriages and stillbirths, whilst being ‘mother to the nation’.
The artists will be joined on stage for a discussion with leading academic Dr. Tracey Loughran, editor of the 2017 Palgrave Handbook of Infertility in History. Chaired by Julia Bueno.
