2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the birth of Louise Brown – the world’s first IVF baby. It has been one of the most important scientific and societal developments of our times and has changed the way the human race is being made today with over six million IVF babies now estimated to have been born worldwide.
Artist Gina Glover spoke about her most recent work in the field of IVF – Life in Glass – for which she was given unprecedented access to the archive of Professor Robert Edwards (the Nobel Prize-winning pioneer of IVF). Gina was then joined on stage for a discussion about the triumphs and challenges of this life-changing science with Dr. Kay Elder who worked alongside Robert Edwards in the early days of his practice; Sally Cheshire, Chair of the HFEA, the UK government regulator of fertility treatment; and Dr. Roy Farqueson Chair of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
